we are always working couple of seasons ahead, while its pouring down with rain outside and the dog is sat under the desk as close to the heater as possible . we are ordering beautiful summer party decorations with a classic vintage feel. no tinsel here just paper and class.

My favorite and best seller is the sunflowers and daisy paper fans they are over 50cm across and brighten up any party .

Grimas pure does not contain any chemical preservatives (such as parabens) or halogenated organic compounds. The ‘Pure’ products, like all Grimas products, are gluten-free and unperfumed.) It does contain a taste component (fruit) that is legally required to be declared as a perfume.

Colours
There is a wide range of matt shades of Lipstick (Pure), including Base Pure – a clear lipstick that can be mixed with all other shades to make a colour more transparent. The range also boasts a number of glossy Pearl tints in addition to the matt colours

Procedure
To emphasise the contours or to change them, use a lip pencil to draw lines, working from the outside inwards. A very thin layer of Grimas Anti Shine can be applied as a primer for extra adhesion. If the lips are dry, first apply a thin layer of Grimas Lipstick Base Pure. To prevent Lipstick (Pure) from running into any creases around the mouth, you can apply a thin layer of Grimas Camouflage Make-up Pure to the lips beforehand.
Take the Lipstick (Pure) onto a spatula (even if you are working from a stick) and apply it with a lip brush. First colour the middle of the lips and then colour the edges, working from the outside inwards. Dab the result with a tissue to matt it off. To make the lips ‘kiss-proof’, powder the matt Lipstick (Pure) off copiously with Grimas Fixing Powder.

Prosthetic wound

At Pixiedust we are always on the look for fun new products and its important to us to test and try them before we add them to the website ( that’s the fun part)

This week I received a sample of a prosthetic wound that’s part of the new range buy Ghoulish, we love their masks and their wound did not disappoint.

The piece I received had lovely thin edges and was quick and easy to apply .

I applied the wound using mehron spirit gum and then went around the edge with some kryolan latex .

I added some make up with a bruise wheel and some blood to the wound .

We are hoping to stock this product for this coming halloween.

In one word, IMATs was amazing. so amazing its taken me nearly two weeks to write my imats blog.

We arrived on the friday and set up the wolfe fx stand, it looked amazing so bright and colorful. The wolfe colours looked amazing.
Saturday the 29th January was a early start and very soon the show was mega busy, we met some amazing people and had such a great time. On the sunday the gorgeous and very lovely joanndeliah came and lent a hand on the stand which was great to have a extra pair of hands. There were so many exhibitors from Kryolan and Graftobianto illusion ,it was so busy i did not get much time to leave the stand, but I did manage to get some a lovely new make up mirror in a flight case. In one word, IMATs was amazing
. I didn't get any many pictures at all (boo!) but I'm sure you have seen many pictures on other blogs.

The International Make-up Artist Trade Show 2011 is only a week away its officially the biggest london IMATS with record numbers due to attend. This year, the London leg of the show tour is at the Alexandra Palace in North London. Brands from all over the world attended; from the hair care, tanning, prosthetics and cosmetic industries.

Our involvement with the show is very exciting and we will be making sure their will be bargains to be had by al on the wolfe stand.

How to make it look like you have cut of your finger.

Roll the wax into a sausage and then join the ends to make a ring of wax. Press the ring of wax into position; making sure the skin is clean and dry.

Using a tiny bit of moisturiser on your fingertip (enough to stop the wax sticking to your finger and no more) blend the outside edges of the ring of wax, you should not be too precise as slightly rough edges look more realistic.

Give the wound a jagged edge, and with the bruise wheel add the bruising.

Don’t forget to add bruising to the other fingers and nails on the hand.

Add a bit of cotton wool to the center of the wound blood .

Add blood to the center of the wound .

With the wounded finger bent hold a few sheets of tissue paper to cover the rest of the finger.

Simple but effective look!

I often get distracted when ordering costumes and today was no different. I was happily ordering christmas costumes, robins, santa beards and other seasonal costumes. But i was soon side tracked and started to think back to my child hood and puff the magic dragon music popped into my head. and very soon I was stocking a very unseasonal dragon costume! I also looked into puff the magic dragon and came up with these interesting facts.

I love looking at face painters websites, its so interesting seeing each artists style, and when i came across lisa’ website from wonderland face art i wanted to share it with you.

Its been a very buy month and with halloween still 10 days away its going to be a while before things calm down.

I have just looked at the last blog I did it was a month ago and so much has happened and is happening.

The big event in team pixies calender was the face and body convention . we had a great weekend selling wolfe face a body paints, shelli from wolfe came over from the sates to help with the stand and kurt and april from wolfe where over running a class.

I meet some amazing people and made some great new friends.

We brought over lots of wolfe products to sell at the show and we also brought over enough to stock the shelves of the pixiedust warehuse and we now have one of each colour and every size plus all the wolfefx glitters , brushes and those amazing wolfe high density sponges.

I love my new wolfle essential palette and wanted to review it and compare it to my kryolan aqua color palette.

cost wise they are about the same.

The wolfe 12 colour essential palette is plastic and comes in a cardboard sleeve with a little instruction card.

The wolfe colors are bold and easy to apply and need very little water . the only thing I did not like about the wolfe palette was the plastic case.

The kryolan palette is also a 12 color palette the colors required a little more water and where not as bold as the wolfle colors, although the brown kryolan was a much stronger color than the wolfle brown.

shrek forever after 3D

Loved the first film, not to keen on Sherk 2 and 3 but tonight I saw sherk forever after, it had all the charm and magic of the first sherk, my favorite characters where still their puss in boots, donkey Fonia and all the little ogre babies.
Sherk becomes bored with married life and makes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin to get back to feeling like a real ogre again, but of course he forgets to read the fine print and is damned to a twisted version of Far Far Away where Rumpelstiltskin is king, ogres are hunted, and he and Fiona have never met he sets out to restore his world and get a kiss from his true love in order to set everything right again .
I loved the film I laughed cried and so looking forward to getting the green face paint out and making my own sherk!

Face Test

Today I took my test to join face (FACE is the home of the Face Painting Association, an organisation created to improve standards and raise the profile of face painting)

I had to paint 3 faces and used my poor hubby as a model. He was very good and kept very still ( I promised not to use glitter ) .

The first face was a Dalmatian dog my new wolfle black looked wonderful.

The second face was a tiger, this went very well and my model even gave a roar for the photo.

The last face was a sunset and a palm tree, I dislike this design but I think it looked ok.

The faces had to be painted in 10 minutes and painted in a mask, the edges had to be neat, and the colours well blended.

The pictures then go of to the committee and hopefully I will pass.

While talking to my examiner we where discussing using different products and the subject of allergies came up. She said its best when face painting to use if possible only one brand because if you mix brands and someone has a reaction you could never prove which brand that caused it. I know it would be difficult to practise but it was a interesting thought.

Keeping my fingers crossed I passed.

Alice in wonderland carnival make up

Had a wonderful weekend painting the purple rubies carnival club as the charters from alice in wonderland.

The purple rubies are a great group of teenagers ( including my daughter) that have formed their own carnival group.

I used my new wolfle face paints and was not disappointed by the bright colours and the ease in which it was applied.

I like to keep up to date with new products and product reviews , so today I logged onto mehron’s website and Wow. It was just like being a kid in a sweet shop.
First there was the mike Ried brush set, and it went straight to the top of my wish list, but as I scrolled down I saw the new Prisma BlendSet Palette.
I love my Wolfe rainbow cakes but mehron have taken it a step further and made a complete set of cakes ranging from bright rainbow colours to shades of black.
The last thing I loved was mehron adgem a safe, LATEX-FREE adhesive to use for all body decorations.
I will be stocking all the above items as soon as I can them shipped over.

Pro Face No Sweat

With the sun shinning I thought it was a good time to blog about pro sweat.

Pro face no sweat is a skin prep used to help excessive perspiration which allows your make up to last longer in the hot weather .

Quick Steps to Using Pro Sweat

Make sure your skin or application area is clean and free from adhesive, oil and dirt.
Apply a generous amount of Pro face no Sweat on to a cotton ball and dab the cotton ball on your application area.

Once the Pro Face dries (Note: Do not touch your skin with your fingers to feel, look in a mirror to discern drying ) apply make up / face paints as normal.

Kryolan Hydro Mastic

Kryolan Hydro Mastic is a great product and can be good alternative to spirit gum as you only need water to wash it of.
Its great for sticking body glitters, use at children’s parties a costume rental.

How to Apply
Use a brush to apply Hydro Spirit Gum and allow to dry slightly before adhering the required hair or objects. Since this is a water-based preparation, Hydro Spirit Gum dries slowly. Warm air can be used to speed up the drying process. This product can be easily removed with soap and water.

I have read you can block out eyebrows with it, I have not tried this myself but here’s how to do it.
· Apply this spirit gum to eyebrows against the grain and with an eyebrow-brush brush hairs up and press flat against the skin.
· Powder with Translucent Powder for a matt finish.
· Apply Paint Stick makeup directly over brows.

With the sun shinning most of the weekend was taken up in the garden, but we did find the time to see the prince of Persia the sands of time.

The story is of damned Persian prince who gets hold of a magical dagger which can turn back time. This dagger becomes the centre of all interest and it’s the Prince’s duty to secure it from all evil forces. With him is the beautiful princess Tamina who also wants the dagger kept in safe hands.

Sorry did not like the film, maybe if you play the game you might enjoy the film. It was full of holes and the story was week with lots of charters , fighting , little story and they all lived happily ever after as they could turn back time!

At long last have found the time and entered makeupbyglorias tribal make up contest.
I always have very good intentions of entering contests , but finding the time always proves to hard.
But a weekend of rain has kept me out of the garden and here's my entry .
I wanted to keep things simple and not be to fussy . I used mehron fantasy fx. its the first time i have used this colour and i was not disappointed , it gave a good strong colour and was easy to apply. I than painted the white with snazaroo and used a kryolan grease paint to outline .

Working for your self is never easy but today has been a perfect day.

up and gardening at 5.30 in my pyjamas I love pyjama gardening .

At work at 7 all orders packed and sent to post office by 10.

Home for a cup of coffee in the garden in the sun. followed by our local radio station coming round to do a interview with hubby and myself about our business and our plan to live on war time rationing in september.

A little more gardening and then I sat down in the garden in the sun and spent far to much money on make-up for hallloween.

I have ordered so much and so many new products. 100’s of bottles of rigid collodion , lots of latex ,spirit gum and remover blood and some great fangs.

I am off to paint my face and try out some new products and will review them in at some point.

Clash of the Titans

The Clash of the Titans is set in the Greek city of Argos where a war is about to explode between man and the gods. Perseus (Sam Worthington from avaator ) raised as a fisherman, but is actually a demi-god.

Perseus is the son of Zeus (Liam Neeson) who is about to take on the gods after the death of his family. Zeus' brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes) was the one who killed his family, and Perseus wants to kill him. However, it is Perseus's destiny to rescue the city of Argos from the ruthless rage of Hades and his Kraken monster.

With nothing to lose, Perseus leads a band of soldiers on a quest to defeat the Kraken. In doing this, Perseus will prevent Hades from overthrowing Zeus and in turn destroying mankind.

The film was ok sam worthingon was very good but once he was riding around on a pegasus it felt to much like avator.

It was worth seeing but maybe wait until its out on dvd .

Special effects in the film where good and I loved the make up for the witches.

lots of costumes ideas from the film including the kraken mask, beards,helmets, Armour and roman / greek costumes.

Its been almost a year since i left college and today i was tidying up some photos and found a photos taken at the college competition The competition theme was narnia and we all spent alot of time using latex to make pieces for our charters.

After hearing all the great reviews about the movie “kick ass” we went last night to see it.

The film was rated 15 but was very violent and I spent some of the film peering through my hands, my 15 year old daughter was also squirming in her seat and looking away when it just got to much.

Dave Lizewski is a geek who wonders why no one has ever tried to become a costumed superhero before. As his friend Marty explains, “Because they would get their asses kicked.”

The pros are Hit-Girl and Big Daddy an adorable father-daughter duo who go out for ice cream by day and render criminals into slaughtered remains at night. The two storylines converge as mafia boss Frank D’Amico puts out a bounty on the superheroes that are hurting his business .

I liked the film and will be stocking up on purple hit girl wigs , but not sure if anyone will make the costumes for this film.

Scarecrow Fangs Fitting Instructions
Easy to follow, step by step instructions on how to get the best fit for your Scarecrow Vampire Fangs

1.A) MIX:
Pour powder from one capsule into the deep side of the carry case, by gently twisting the capsule ends apart. Remove bottle lid, snap off tip and dispense 7 drops (for Shredders use 14 drops )onto the powder. Pick up the case in your hand and tilt slightly. Stir with the stick provided for 10-15 seconds until the mixture is uniform and just pasty while keeping the material in a glob at the lower edge of the tilted case as not to waste any.

2.B) FIT:
Scoop the glob of material into one fang, applying it onto the front and back as evenly as possible rather than just filling up he cavity in the fang. Gently push the fang all the way up onto your tooth, attempting to locate the best position in one motion. Do not wiggle, adjust or reposition the fang after you push it all the way up or it will not set correctly. Leave it on for 5 minutes so it can harden, but do not remove it yet, and don't work on the next fang until 5 minutes has passed so that you don't accidentally loosen it before it sets up. With the first fang in place, position the next fang in a mirror. Position this fang relative to the first so that it has a similar angle and looks natural. After you practiced putting it on accurately, follow steps A and B again.

3.C) REMOVE:
These fangs fit tight! If you like how they look after you finish customizing, leave them on. When you are ready to take them off, gently push your lower teeth forward against the back side of the fang tips until you hear a slight click. Then wiggle and pull gently with your fingers until they loosen up. it may take a minute the first time you remove them, they are meant to fit tight. Your fangs will now clip on and off easily. If desired, trim off the excess material that shows on the front of the fangs with a nail clipper or scissors.

Alice in wonderland.

After seeing Tim Burtons Alice in wonderland film, I have decided the best thing about the film is the way it has inspired and touched so many with its wonderful achievable make up and costumes.

About 2 weeks ago the British Costume association held its annual trade show up in stoneleigh, the costumes that where on show their where beautiful, from simple but detailed alice dresses to wonderful hatter costumes, and lots of affordable hatter hats with hair!

we will be ordering some of these and be adding them to our hire range soon.

But the make up in the film was amazing and so inspiring , made you want to rush home and get out your make up brushes.

I came home and became one of the queens nobles.

Joanna Peters just went as mad as a hatter and within a few days she created so many wonderful charters including

I just could not believe this look that Joannadelliah has done. I knew it was going to be something special as she had brought lots of latex from me but i could never had imagined she was making a octopus!

Jo has such an amazing imagination and is so creative.

This octopus look was created with latex and cheerios! (yes kids breakfast cereals)

The tentacles where made out of latex then powdered and painted and then stuck to her face using spirit gum. the look was completed by fitting a bald cap.

Well done jo I think this is your best yet.

We went to see the new wolf man film last weekend .
which inspired me to get out my greece paints and create this simple make up.

I used Kryolan,grease paints but you could use any grease based make up.

Mad Hatter Makeup Tutorial

March 5, 2010 is the release date of Tim Burtons alice in wonderland Film.

I am so looking forward to seeing this film and have added a small section to the website with Alice in wonderland costumes, masks and make up.

In researching this I discovered Goldiestarlings you tube video of the mad hatter make up.

She makes it look so easy and its such a great look for us all to do.

In the video she has used the mehron paradise palette ( basic).

The mehron Pardise range is vast , the paradise palette s are great to use and come in tropical, metallic, pastel and basic.

They give good coverage and bold colors, they smell of coconut and come in a silver palette with a mirror.

Just retuned for imats London ( the make up artist trade show) I had a great weekend with my Daughter meeting lots of people and seeing some wonderful make up.

Highlights of the weekend for me was Bill Corso ( Oscar®- and Emmy® award-winning artist whose credits include Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events)

It was a great talk and he was so normal and down to earth.

I also meet Koren Zander he was brilliant and gave a great talk on loose pigments, lots of tips , he even told us what he new video was all about !

As a retailer of make up I tend not to buy anything their, but imats is a great place to catch up with friends and get to see the new products on offer for the coming year.

Having a late start today . lots of fresh snow today, its very wet snow and alot more than we had last week. but the good news is schools are open so holly has gone to school today .

Wanted to blog and tell you all about the wonderful face-painting course i attended.

It was a two day course in london , day one was face painting , day 2 advanced face painting.

We first leant how to apply a base ( no more dipping the sponge in the water bowl) using a water spray to get the paint consistency.

Next we blended with a sponge, an leant how to use the brush to get the effects we wanted.

then I painted a tiger.

After lunch I painted a butterfly with glitter.

Day two.

drag blending with a brush or sponge, we practiced on our arms and then on each other.

once again plenty of glitter.

In the afternoon we did a monster!, it was very difficult but it was good to put to use all the skills we had learnt in the past 2 days.

Chritsmas lights in portishead

Today is the day volunteers put the portishead christmas lights up.

Its a amazing achievement that this wonderful display of lights is all done by the people of portishead.

The local businesses in portishead are wonderful, making sure the workers get fed and watered though out the day.

Today was very wet and putting up the lights was hard work but worth it.

A big thank you to clarence house for the pasty and chips, the wonderful ladies in barclays bank for the mince pies and sausage rolls, mon's wine bar for the biscuits and coffee, and the poacher pub for the wonderful hot coffee.

Tomorrow night is switch on night.

Teampixies Halloween

Halloween is over for another year, but the blood and gore keeps selling ,its almost Halloween all year round at pixiedust.
This year we even had time to get dressed up and decorate our house to scare all the local children.
The problem was we where to good and they where to scared and would not come down the drive to collect their sweets.

We made it simple this year just a real coffin with spooky music playing , and large human skull on top of the coffin ( not real) . fake grave stones in the garden ( we do live opposite the cemetery) , lots of fog from the smoke machine.

Then my lovely hubby and I dressed as Victorian ghosts, Hubby in black suit top hat, me in a long skirt and Victorian style top and Shaw.

Hubby stood next to the coffin , and I sat in a large wooden arm chair , neither of us moved until the children arrived.

We a had a light show on the front of the house with a witch, pumpkin and spiders web.

Plus lots of pumpkins and gourds that we had grown.

pumkin time

I have always loved halloween but my favorite part is the pumkins, from early spring I sow punkin seeds and feed and water them in readyness for this week.
so last night the harvested pumkins where removed from storage and carefully cleaned and are ready to be carved.
The wheelbarrow below has just has the small ones in. the large pumpkins needed a seperate trip.
I will start to carve tonight and add my pics when they are done.

1940's make up

As halloween fast approaches I took some time out to play!
I wanted to try a 1940's look ( its very hard with black and purple dreads to get it to look real)

I was very pleased with the final look, but then the halloween inside took over and I added a wound or two, my 1940's make over turned into a 1940's with a difference!

Spent most of the day today sorting and ordering beards.
wizard beards, childrens beards for navity plays. lumber jack beards etc.
Ran out of time to start on the crepe wool and tash's I will save them for another day.

At long last I have found the time to make and edit my video on how to use Rigid Collodion .

we sale so much Rigid Collodion on our web site that i thought I should make a how to video.

The video has been almost a month in the making! it should be a epic .

I filmed it one evening and than started to edit it over the next few evenings, the PC broke so we brought a MAC ( my daughter says its made her life complete) .

next the camera needs a new lead to connect it , no one stocked it so ended up sending of for one that took ages to arrive.

So at long last i sat down to edit my very short but informative film .
